Death Toll For Irish Roads Reaches 30

The number of road deaths in the State has now risen to 30, following the deaths of three young mean over the weekend, double the number for this time last year.

Alan Kelly, 18, and Raymond Mulhall, 20, were killed when the car they were travelling in struck a concrete pillar near Ferbane, Co Offaly, at 7.30pm on Friday.

Gardai have appealed for anyone with information regarding Friday's accident to contact Birr garda station on 057-9169710 or the confidential line 1800 666 111.

In a separate incident, another young man, Padraic Stapleton (22), died following a two- car collision outside Thurles, Co Tipperary.

The incident took place on Friday at 10.40pm on the N75 at Rathmanna.

The driver of the second car was treated in hospital for minor injuries but was later discharged.

Man Arrested In Connection With Fatal Road Collision
A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in Dublin on Friday night. A woman, 40, died when she was hit by a car on the Davitt Road, which fled from the scene. The car, believed to be a Ford Focus, has not been found. Gardai believe the car would have been damaged at the front and the windscreen.

Man Dies Following Tipperary Car Crash
A man in his 20s has died following a car crash in Co Tipperary. The single-vehicle incident occurred on the N24 at Lacken, Kilshane at 4.40am this morning, Wednesday 07 February. It is understood the car left the road and struck a wall. The victim, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Investigation Launched Into Shooting Incident In Co Meath
An investigation has been launched into a shooting incident in Dunboyne in the early hours of Wednesday morning. At about 04:15 two shots were discharged at a house at The Green, Dunboyne Castle, Co Meath. There were no reports of any injuries however damage was caused to the front sitting room window and door.

Seven Arrested In Connection With Armed Home Raid
Gardaí in Co Tipperary have arrested seven men in connection with armed raid on a family home. According to gardaí an armed gang broke into the Killenaule home of a businessman and his family at around 03:00 on Thursday morning. The man was in the house at the time along with his wife and three children, all understood to be aged under eight.

Two Die In Two Days On Roads
Two men have died on Ireland's roads in two days, in Mayo and Limerick. In the most recent incident, a man in his 20s died in a single-vehicle road crash in Co Mayo on Wednesday morning. The crash happened at Belcarra, about 10km outside of Castlebar, at 7am.
