Mother And Sons Kidnapped, Beaten And Left By Burning Car

A mother and her two sons are recovering after they were abducted from their home, beaten up by a gang and then dumped by the side of a road beside their burning car.

It is understood three masked men forced their way into the family's home in Arklow and ransacked the house.

They attacked the woman and her sons and punched them several times, while demanding money, before bundling them into the family car.

A motive for this family to be targeted is now trying to be established.

Gardai think the kidnappers could be part of a gang running rampage through Co Wicklow that is also being blamed for the murder of criminal Philip O'Toole, whose body was found near Rathdrum last Friday.
