Mullingar Man To Appeal Against Murder Conviction

David Bourke from Mullingar is appealing against his conviction for murdering his wife in Dublin in 2007.

A jury found he had stabbed Jean Gilbert in the back four times in front of their children because he discovered she was having an affair.

Bourke was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2009 for murdering his wife, 45, at their home in Laverna Dales, Castleknock.

He gave evidence at his trila and said the pair had a good relationship, however when she told him she loved someone else he was left devastated.

Bourke lunged at her with a knife in front of their children before contacting the emergency services and trying to resuscitate her.
