Trial Hears Man Felt Suicidal Ahead Of Attack On Neighbour

A man standing trial for murder told gardaí he paced around his flat feeling suicidal before going to the victim’s bedsit and stabbing him, the court has heard.

39-year-old Lloyd Buckley told gardaí that he was contemplating taking his own life after taking some heroin and he called to the nearby bedsit of Michael Healy (62). When Mr Buckley first contacted gardaí, he said he could not live with himself after claiming he stabbed Mr Healy in the head with a knife.

“I am so sorry. I only wanted help. I knocked on the door. I stabbed him in the head. I went there with a knife and stabbed him. I only wanted to die.

“I should not have done what I did. I cannot live with it . . . I didn’t know what I was doing. I just stabbed him with a knife that I had in the flat.”

Mr Buckley denies the murder but admits the manslaughter of Mr Healy at Rocksprings Terrace, Cork, two years ago.
