Gardaí Question Man Over Missing Co Laois Woman

Gardaí are continuing to question a 24-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of Aoife Phelan, the pregnant woman who went missing in Co Laois last month.

He is being held in Portlaoise Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to 24 hours.

Gardaí also conducted a detailed search of a property on the Timahoe Road outside Portlaoise on Monday night.

It is understood CCTV footage is being scrutinised by gardaí in an attempt to gain a clearer picture of Ms Phelan’s final movements.

On the night she vanished, Ms Phelan (30) left the home where she worked as a nanny at 6.15pm to met a friend on the Borris Road a short time later. The pair then went to a house at Colliers View in Portlaoise.

Ms Phelan didn’t return home after leaving the house in Portlaoise.
