Man Charged With Hijacking

A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with the hijacking of a car in Dublin last month.

Christopher Coakley from Empress Place has been charged with robbery and theft of a car on 5 August.

A woman was allegedly dragged from the car before it was driven away with her ten-year-son inside. The car stopped a short distance away and the boy managed to get out.

The arresting garda told the court that Mr Coakley made no reply when charged shortly after midnight.

Mr Coakley’s solicitor, Aine Flynn, said there would be no application for bail and that her client was a vulnerable young person who had previously been psychologically assessed.

He was granted free legal aid and remanded in custody to appear again at Dublin District Court next week.
