Family Of Keith Mills 'Disgusted' By Sentence For Killer

Paul Rice was today sentenced to five years for the manslaughter of his best friend, Keith Mills, in December 2008.

26-year-old Mr Rice said he “just snapped” and attacked Mills after he hit his sister with a belt,

Mills, a 22-year-old father-of-one, died in hospital ten days later.

Keith Mills' parents said afterwards they had not received justice and that they were “disgusted” by the sentence.

Paul Rice has a total of 22 previous convictions in the Republic and in Northern Ireland for assault, damaging property and possession of knives.

He was arrested and admitted what he had done. Upon release, he went to Belfast to his father but was imprisoned there and subsequently returned to Ireland on a European Arrest Warrant.

He expressed remorse for killing Keith Mills and today he was sentenced to seven years in prison with the final two years suspended.

Grandfather Of Magician Dies After Attack In Home
A teenager has been arrested in connection with an attack on an 82-year-old man who has died from his injuries. Paddy Barry, the grandfather of magician Keith Barry, was seriously injured after the break-in at his home in the Mount Sion area on 16 September. Mr Barry died early this morning never having regained consciousness after the attack.

€1.9m Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Port
Cigarettes worth an estimated €1.9 million have been seized by Revenue officers at Dublin Port. The cigarettes, branded 'MG', 'Viceroy' and 'Marhaba', were concealed in a 45 foot container which was said to contain Rice cakes and had arrived into Dublin Port from Rotterdam.
