Four People Still In Hospital After Fatal Rally Collision

Four people remain in hospital today following a crash in which two people were killed in County Cavan.

Seven people were initially taken to hospital at the scene of the accident.

Caroline Cleary, 29, from Co Cork and 50-year-old Joe Lane from Co Galway were killed when a car appeared to go out of control and crashed into a group of spectators.

A spokesperson from Motorsport Ireland said: "Motorsport Ireland extends its sympathies to the families and friends of the two spectators who were fatally injured and the seven others who were injured during a tragic incident this morning at the Cavan Stages Rally.

"Motorsport Ireland also extends its sympathies to the members of County Cavan Motor Club and everyone involved with organising the event who reacted so quickly and professionally to the incident."

Mototrsport Ireland have begun a full investigation with the relevant authorities to establish how the accident occurred.

Man Dies In Co Cavan Lake
A man has died after he got into difficulties while swimming in a lake in Co Cavan. He had been swimming with friends at Knocknagarton lake at approximately 10pm on Monday. His body was recovered and was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation Launched Into Woman's Death In Cavan
Gardai have launched an investigation after the body of a woman was found in a house in Cavan. It is understood that the body of the woman, believed to be in her forties, was discovered in a house just before midnight on Saturday. The body was taken to Cavan General Hospital and the state pathologist was notified.

Pensioner Dies In Co Monaghan Road Crash
A pensioner has died following a road collision in Co Monaghan. The two-vehicle incident occurred on the R188, Monaghan to Cootehill road, at Stranooden on Saturday. A passenger in one of the cars, a female aged in her 80s, was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital, however she was later pronounced dead.

Fireball Hits Cavan
Early reports have emerged that a fireball has been seen in Irish skies eventually hitting County Cavan. Astronomy Ireland has today announced a number of visual sightings of the fireball this morning, and thought to have been a falling meteorite.
