Trips To Ireland Decrease By Over 1.2%
The total number of trips to Ireland decreased by 1.2% to 1,165,100, between January to March this year, an overall decrease of 13,700 compared to the same period twelve months earlier, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ireland.
Trips by residents of North America to Ireland decreased by 6.5% to 144,700 while trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) decreased by 3.7% to 392,800. Visitors from other areas decreased by 0.6% to 65,200. However, visitors from Great Britain increased by 2.1% to 562,400. The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents decreased by 2.5% to 1,234,800.
The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period January to March 2012 decreased by 1.9% to 2,399,900 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier. For the period January to March 2011, there was an annual decrease of 3.1% in the total number of trips taken when compared to the previous corresponding period.
