Two Men Held Over Betting Shop Raid

Gardaí last night arrested two men and recovered a large cash sum after two raiders held up a bookmakers shop in Tower, near Blarney.

Two men armed with handguns and wearing balaclavas held up Connollys Bookmakers at 5.30pm yesterday. They made off with €5,000 making their getaway by car, a silver Volkswagen Golf. It was abandoned around 5km away at Cannon’s Cross. The officers did not find any handguns.

Although no one was injured in the raid, the three members of staff were shaken.

The two men were arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, which allows detention for up to 72 hours.

One man was taken to Gurranabraher Garda Station for questioning while the other was taken to Mayfield Garda Station while garda technical expert have begun examining the car.

Gardaí are continuing to search for the two weapons.

Two Held After Post Office Raid
Gardaí in Co Dublin have arrested two men in connection with the armed robbery of a post office. According to reports two men entered the Clonsilla Post Office at around 10am. They escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash. Garda arrested two men a short time later on the M6, near Tyrrellspass in Co Westmeath.

Woman Arrested Over Kerry Post Office Raid
A woman has been arrested in connection with an armed raid at a post office in Co Kerry. The suspect was arrested at around 5.30pm in Killarney on Thursday, 04 August. A sum of cash was stolen from Waterville Post Office at around 11am on Wednesday, 03 August. Two men were arrested in the area after the incident.

Suspect Released Following Drugs Raid
Heroin, cannabis and amphetamine worth an estimated €40,000 has been seized by gardaí during a search of a house in Thurles. Two arrests were made during the search, a woman in her 20s, who has since been released, and a man in his 30s, who remains in custody.

Two Held Over Cavan ATM Raid
Two men have been detained in connection with the attempted raid of an ATM machine in Co Cavan. Gardaí revealed this morning that the two men were arrested on Mondayat approximately 10am. One man, aged 41, was arrested in the Newbliss area of County Monaghan while the second man, aged 42, was arrested in the Dublin area.

Gardaí Injured During Drugs Raid
A man has been arrested after three gardaí were injured during a drug search in County Louth on Friday. The incident occurred at a property in Termonfeckin after 9am. The officers are believed to have been attacked with a knife and a pitbull dog was set on them. A man in his 30s is being held at Drogheda Garda Station.
