Two Held Over Cavan ATM Raid

Two men have been detained in connection with the attempted raid of an ATM machine in Co Cavan.

Gardaí revealed this morning that the two men were arrested on Mondayat approximately 10am. One man, aged 41, was arrested in the Newbliss area of County Monaghan while the second man, aged 42, was arrested in the Dublin area.

The arrests came as the result of an on-going investigation by local Gardaí in the Cavan and Monaghan divisions.

The investigation, which was being carried out in conjunction with the Organised Crime Unit and aided by the local Detective Unit, was being conducted in relation to an ATM raid, which occurred at Cootehill, County Cavan on December 12.

They are both detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at Monaghan Garda Station.

Weather Warnings Continue
Strong winds, heavy rain and further flooding are predicted as Met Éireann issues a further weather warning. A status yellow warning for rain came into effect nationwide at 6am on Friday morning. Rainfall of between 30-45mm is predicted in the next 24 hours.

Weather Alerts Issued For Ireland
An orange wind warning has been issued for Leinster. Winds in the area may reach between 90-115 k-ph in the area. A yellow wether warning has also been put in place for Muster, Connacht, Monaghan, Cavan and Donegael. Winds of up to 80 to 100k-ph are expected. The warnings have been issued until 8pm tonight.

Armed Support Unit Deployed In Cavan-Monaghan
A new gardaí armed support unit has been established to patrol border region in Cavan-Monaghan. The new unit is to be based in Cavan, and will complement the two other border-based armed units in Dundalk and Donegal. The new unit will be staffed by gardaí taken from other armed support units until new members are fully trained to operate it.

Man Arrested And 'Large Amount' Of Cash Seized In Co Monaghan Raid
Gardaí in Co Monaghan have seized a "large amount" of cash and property during a planned search on Monday. Local garda supported the Criminal Assets Bureau in searching a premises near Castleblaney in Co Monaghan, where approximately €300,000 in cash was uncovered. Garda seized the money along with a bulldozer, a car and a van.
