Five Quizzed Over €5m Drug Haul

Five men are being questioned over what is being hailed as one of the largest cocaine seizures, in recent years, in Ireland.

The significant drug seizure saw 80kg of cocaine, with an estimated street value of more than €5m, found at an industrial premises in north Cork yesterday evening.

A 45 year-old Irish man and a 56 year-old German national were arrested at the premises in Bartlemy.

In follow-up raids in Cork and Dublin, another three men were arrested - two Irish men aged 42 and 65 and a 46-year-old Hungarian national.

All five were being held at a number of garda stations in Co Cork and Terenure and Crumlin in Dublin.

The drugs have been brought to Dublin and may be put on display by gardaí later today.

It is understood that the drugs entered the country into Cork Port from Rotterdam.

Met Éireann Issues Weather Warning
A weather warning has been issued by Met Éireann and will be in place for most of the day (Friday). The yellow warning comes as up to 40mm of rain is due to fall today, with winds also reaching gale force. Rain is expected to move southeastwards throughout the day and will be heavy in places.

Five Cities To See Parking Levy By 2009
The new €200 workplace parking levy will be introduced in five cities from next January, according to an announcement today. The Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan announced the levy on Budget day last month, but it has been revealed that from January next year, Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford will be operating the levy.
