Arrest Quickly Follows Belfast Stabbing

Police have moved fast and arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder in Co Down just over an hour after a woman was stabbed at a medical centre miles away, in north Belfast.

The attack happened at the Grove Wellbeing Centre on York Road at about noon on Thursday. The man was detained around 90 minutes later in the Church Road area of Newtownards and is being questioned over the incident.

A PSNI statement said this afternoon that the woman's condition is not currently known but it is understood that she has been taken to hospital and is thought to be seriously wounded.

The health centre and an adjoining library were both cordoned off this afternoon.
