World's Longest Serving Sports Broadcaster Retires

The Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, has paid tribute to sports broadcaster Seán Óg Ó’Ceallacháin who retires this week from RTÉ.

Michael Ring TD said: “I would like to congratulate Seán Óg on a wonderful career spanning 63 years. Seán Óg is RTÉ's longest serving broadcaster.

His Sunday night radio programme on RTÉ entitled Gaelic Sports Results, which has been running for 63 years, is the longest running continuously broadcast radio feature in the world. His retirement therefore marks the end of an era.”

He continued: “From 1948 to 2011, he followed in his father's footsteps by hosting a Sunday night GAA results programme on RTÉ Radio. Seán Óg retires this week, following an illustrious career in RTÉ Radio and Television sport - and just two years short of his 90th birthday.
