Two Men Arrested Over Castlerock Gas Deaths
Two men have been arrested and are being questioned by detectives about the deaths of two teenagers from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Aaron Davidson and Neil McFerran, both 18, from Newtownabbey died at a holiday apartment in Castlerock last August.
Detectives in Coleraine carried out the arrests and have detained the men - aged 40 and 49 years – for questioning about the deaths.
The two friends had been staying at the apartment near Coleraine with a third friend, Matthew Gaw, who survived the gas leak.
They were found by relatives.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSENI) investigation into the deaths established that a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) appliance in the flat was defective and reiterated its general guidelines with regards to gas safety.
Following the deaths, the social development minister announced carbon monoxide detectors would be fitted in almost 3,000 Housing Executive homes across Northern Ireland.
The mothers of the dead teenagers made a film with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents NI to raise awareness of the 'silent killer' and how future tragedies can be prevented.

A total of five men have been arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with the deaths of three men in the Dublin and Midlands areas. Gardaí from Limerick, assisted by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation said they have arrested the five males this morning.

A man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of the bodies of two elderly brothers at their home in Castlebar on Wednesday. A home-help for the brothers alerted gardai at around 07:00 after she arrived at their home and found their bodies.

Irish Population Leaps Ahead Of UK
While Northern Ireland's population has now exceeded 1.75 million and is growing faster than any other UK region - it is dwarfed by the rate of increase in the Irish Republic. Official statistics just revealed today show that in mid 2007, the number of people living in the North had increased by 1.0% over the previous year.

Work-Related Deaths Gravely Underestimated
One of Ireland's largest trade unions has said that the actual number of work-related deaths in Ireland is more than 23 times the official figure. According to Siptu, 1,400 people died every year as a result of accidents, illnesses and diseases linked to their employment, as opposed to official statistics of around 60.

Birth Rate Up In First 3 Months Of 2008
There was almost a 10% jump in the number of babies born in Ireland during the first three months of this year, compared to 2007. Figures released by the Central Statistics Office report 19,000 births during January, February and March.
