Armed Man Robs Cash Van In Meath

An armed man and an accomplice have escaped after robbing a cash-in-transit van in Nobber, Co Meath this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 10.10am when cash was being delivered to the Post Office, in Nobber's Main Sreet.

Gardaí said so far they have established that after a crew member alighted from the van to enter the Post Office, he was confronted by a male who was carrying a gun. The male made threats and forced the crew member to hand over a cash box.

The unidentified male then left the scene in a small white van accompanied by another male. Both suspects are believed to have been in possession of firearms.

They fled in the direction of Navan with an undisclosed amount of cash. No shots were fired and no injuries were received.

The vehicle was subsequently found on fire at Whitewood Lake, Kilmainhamwood. It is believed that the suspects changed to a black car at this location, which was believed to have been driven by a third accomplice.

Gardai in Nobber said they are investigating the circumstances of a robbery and are appealing to any witness or to anybody who saw the vehicles in the Nobber / Kilmainhamwood areas this morning to contact the incident room at Navan Garda Station, telephone 046-9079930 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111.
