Three Arrested Over Delaney Shooting

Three men have been arrested in connection with a shooting in 2008, which left a young man severely brain-damaged.

Robert Delaney, a father of two, was shot in the face with a shotgun as he looked out of an upstairs window when a gunman called at his home.

Two men, aged 31 and 57, are being held at Tallaght garda station and a third man, aged 32, in Ratharnham.

The three were detained after raids in south-west Dublin.

They were being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be questioned for 72 hours.

The attack was linked to a row in a pub a few weeks earlier.

Meanwhile, Gardai investigating the abduction of a bank official’s wife on the 2nd September and the subsequent robbery of a sum of money from the Allied Irish Bank in Clondalkin said they have made a number of arrests.

In the course of the operation a number of houses were searched in South and West Dublin and four men in their 20’s were arrested in Kilcock, Co Kildare.

A fifth man in his 30’s was arrested in Blanchardtown.

Gardai found sums of money in two locations in the course of the searches.

The men are detained at Terenure, Rathmines, and Crumlin Garda Stations. All are being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

An incident room has been set up at Terenure Garda Station and anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí on 01 6666400, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
