Two Killed In Separate Road Collisions

Two people have died as a result of road collisions on Ireland's road's yesterday evening.

In the latest incident, a young man was killed when his car smashed into a tree in his hometown.

Brian Kelly, 28, from Durrow, Co Laois, died in the crash on the N8 at Watercastle, Durrow, shortly before 10pm. He was the only passenger of the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Gardai in Abbeyleix are appealing for witnesses.

Mr Kelly, who is survived by his parents and two sisters, had recently returned from Australia.

Shortly before the Laois crash, four occupants of a car - two males and two females - were brought to Roscommon Hospital after the car in which they were travelling was involved in a collision with a van.

Gardai in Frenchpark, County Roscommon are investigating the two vehicle fatal road collision which occurred at approximately 6.20pm on the Boyle Road in Frenchpark.

One of the men aged in his early 70’s was pronounced dead in the hospital.

The driver of the van was not seriously injured. The road is currently closed and diversions are in place locally.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have any information is asked to contact Castlerea Garda station on 094-9621630.

The incidents take the death toll to 144 on Ireland's roads this year.

Man Dies In Single-Vehicle Crash
A man has been killed in a collision in Galway. The car crash happened at around 2.45am this morning on the Headford to Galway Road. The 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardai are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Road Crash Tragedies Mounting
Three people have died in separate crashes in Dublin, Donegal and on the M7 in Laois. A 28-year-old woman has been killed in the road crash in Co Donegal. She was a passenger in a car that struck a wall in Kilmacrennan at 3.45am on Sunday morning. The man driving the car was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital, but his injuries are not serious.

Woman, 82, Dies In Road Accident
An 82-year-old woman has died following a road accident in Donegal. The crash occurred at around 3.50pm on Monday (18 August) at The Ross in Bundoran. Gardaí have said a car collided with a fence in the incident. The woman was transferred to Sligo Hospital but later died from her injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí.

Man Dies In Co Monaghan Road Crash
A man has died in a road crash in Co Monaghan, gardaí have reported. According to gardaí the man in his 20s died in a two-car collision on the N2 Dublin-Monaghan, south of Carrickmacross. It is understood the victim was the driver of the one of the cars involved in the accident.
