Man, 63, Dies After Meath Assault
A 63-year-old man has died in hospital after an assault in County Meath over the weekend.
A postmortem is due to be carried out today on the body of the man who is understood to be a bachelor from Athlone. He passed away yesterday afternoon at Beaumont Hospital.
He was found unconscious by a taxi driver at around 12.30am on Monday last week and died yesterday after the assault, which occurred on Academy Street, Navan, Co Meath.
It is believed he sustained head injuries during an assault by a group of up to four people. No one has been arrested over the attack.
Supt Michael Devine of Navan Garda station said they were seeking to speak to three or four people, at least two of whom were women, seen around Academy St between midnight and 1am on the night of the assault.
The postmortem examination will be carried out by acting Deputy State Pathologist this morning.
Following the death, investigating Gardai are renewing their appeal for anyone with information to contact Navan Garda Station 046-9079930, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Two Arrested Over Thurles Assault
Two males have been arrested in connection with a "serious assault" that took place during the early hours of Sunday morning in Thurles. Gardaí announced this morning they had arrested two males, one juvenile and one in his late teens, in relation to a serious assault which took place over the weekend in the Thurles area, County Tipperary.
