Driver Killed In Roscommon Crash

A man has died as a result of a car collision in County Roscommon in the early hours of this morning.

The single vehicle collision occurred at 2.45am this morning. The 34-years-old man, who was the only occupant of a car, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Roscommon General Hospital.

Gardai in Boyle are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal road traffic collision, which occurred at Tarmonbarry, on the Longford to Strokestown Road.

The N5 Longford to Strokestown Road is now closed pending a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place in the area.

Garda are appealing for witnesses to the crash to contact them at Boyle Garda Station on 071 9664620, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

According to AA Roadwatch the N5 Longford to Westport Road is expected to stay closed until midday following the crash. Eastbound traffic are being diverted from Strokestown to Longford via Roosky. Westbound traffic are asked to divert from Longford to Strokestown via Lanesborough.

A spokesman from AA Roadwatch said: "These roads are narrow and care is needed."

In the North, the police were celebrating today as they were able to report no fatal accidents in the previous month.

Four Men Dead In Separate Collisions
A total of four men have died in a spate of separate car collisions over the weekend. In the most recent incident, a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s. The collision which occurred at Cloghnadromin, Ballysimon, CoLimerick at approx 1.30pm on Sunday.

Witness Appeal Following Fatal Road Traffic Collision In Co Longford
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Co Longford on Sunday, 17 July. An 18-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in, as a front seat passenger, collided with a tractor at approximately 11.50pm in Cloonart, Bornacoola. The man was pronounced dead at Mullingar Hospital.

Four Killed On Irish Roads This Weekend
A number of separate road crashes this weekend have claimed four lives, including a father and son. John Gallagher, 55, and his 24-year-old son Sean died when their car collided with another vehicle at Burt on Saturday morning. The collision occurred at the junction of Slab Road, Burt, on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.

Woman Killed After Collision With Truck
A driver has been killed after her car was in collision with an articulated truck. Gardaí are investigating the fatal road traffic collision on the N24 about 2km from Kilsheelan in Coounty Tipperary, at about 9.50pm yesterday. The woman, who is in her 20s, was killed when the car she was driving was in collision with an articulated truck.

Two People Killed In Co Cork Road Traffic Collision
Two people have been killed in a road traffic collision in Co Cork yesterday, 05 April. The incident happened at around 5:10pm on the N20 Cork to Limerick Road one mile outside Mallow. The occupants of one car, a male and female both in their 70's, were killed in the collision.
