Mountain Body Post Mortem Details Witheld

A Gardaí spokesman has said details from the post mortem carried out on the human remains found in the Dublin mountains yesterday will not be made public.

The State Pathologist has carried out the examination but Sergeant Jim Molloy has said Gardaí are not releasing the results of the examination for "operational reasons".

So far officers have confirmed the skeletal remains are those of a man, and may have been at the scene for a number of months.

The Deputy State Pathologist carried out a preliminary examination this morning.

Some clothing discovered at the scene has yet to be forensically examined, while the surrounding area has been sealed off and is expected to undergo a thorough search for additional evidence.

It is believed the body has not yet been identified, but Gardaí are now speaking to the families of currently missing persons in search of leads.

A forensic anthropologist has also been called in to help with the investigation.

The skeletal remains were found by a woman and her son who were out walking near Viewing Point on Military Road.

A case conference is being held at Tallaght Garda station this evening and gardaí said the discovery is being treated as a "full investigation".

Gardaí have appealed to the public who use the road to contact Tallaght Garda station on 6666056 if they have any information.

The road is quite busy and leads up to the Sally Gap so many people would pass through it on a regular basis, a spokesman said.
