Garda Injured In Shop Robbery

A Garda was injured last night when he tried to prevent a robbery at a shop in Dublin.

The incident happened at about 7pm on South Circular Road.

The Garda, in his early 30s, was on duty - but in plain clothes - was passing the shop when he saw a man jump over the counter and threaten staff.

He confronted the man, who is believed to have had a knife, and received a slash wound to the face that was treated at St James’ Hospital.

However, the injuries are not said to be life threatening.

The man escaped from the scene in a small red car, possibly a Honda Civic, and a car that fits this description was found near Connolly Avenue later.

The suspect was described as around 6ft tall and thin, wearing a lot of layers of clothes and a with a Balaclava on his head.

The areas around the shop and where the car was recovered was sealed off in order to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information can contact Kilmainhan Garda Station on 666 9700.
