Tragic Boxer Buried

The funeral of Irish Olympic boxer Darren Sutherland is to take place today.

Darren was found by his manager Frank Maloney, who has described the death as a "tragedy for Ireland and the world of boxing''.

Speaking last week, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said the death in Bromley, south London, was not being treated as suspicious.

The fighter, who won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics, was found dead in his London flat last Monday. It is believed he took his own life.

He will be buried after a service in St Mary's Church, Navan, Co Meath.

The mourners include his parents Tony and Linda and sisters Nicole and Shaneika.

After his success in Beijing, the fighter turned professional and joined the Maloney camp, winning his first fight in Dublin last December by knockout.

His next professional fight had been scheduled for October.
