Sligo Baby's Funeral Takes Place

The funeral of a seven-week baby girl who died at Sligo General Hospital earlier this week has taken place today at St Anne's Church in Sligo.

Shakira Farrell-Scanlon was taken to hospital by her parents last Saturday morning, suffering with suspected head injuries. She never regained consciousness and her life support machine was finally switched off on Tuesday.

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the baby's death and have examined the family home as part of the inquiry.

A post-mortem has been carried out, but the results have not yet been released. Gardaí have confirmed that further tests are to be carried out by the Office of the State Pathologist.
