Identity Of Bodies Probed

Gardaí in Clare are today attempting to identify the body of a man that was recovered from the sea at the Cliffs of Moher and may have been in the water for up to three weeks.

The partially clothed body was spotted at around 6pm by two French tourists who were walking along the 700 foot high cliffs close to O'Brien's Tower.

Members of the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard were alerted, and the body was recovered at around 7pm last night. Gardaí believe the man was in his late 20s to early 30s.

Meanwhile, Gardai have also renewed their appeal for information about the discovery of a woman's body in Phoenix Park.

They would like anyone who was in Phoenix Park, in the days leading up to the 5th of August, to contact them.

So far detectives have been unable to identify the dead woman and are investigating the possibility that she may be a foreign national.

On Thursday, a coroner's examination has found she died as a result of internal trauma caused by multiple stab wounds to the upper body.

The deceased was 4' 10", of medium build, with short brown hair described as not quite shoulder length and aged in her late 30s to early 40s approximately.

She was wearing a green/grey fleece zip-up jacket, a rugby type top with red and blue stripes and three quarter length pink leggings. Her toenails were painted with gold nail varnish.

She also wore a Saint Anthony type gold chain necklace tied with a piece of string, a silver cross and chain necklace and gold hoop type earrings described as 'Creole Type'.

A white scarf and black zip-up jacket were also found nearby, as was a black ladies bicycle.

Anyone with information, or who was in the general area in the days leading up to the discovery, are asked to contact the Garda incident room at Cabra Garda Station 01-666 7400, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
