North Orange Hall Damaged

An Orange Hall in Co Armagh has been damaged in an overnight arson attack.

CCTV cameras at the hall were disabled before a number of roof tiles were removed and a flammable liquid poured inside and then set alight.

The fire caused extensive damage to the entrance porch, however, the main hall on the Kilmore Road between Moira and Lurgan, which has been rebuilt twice after previous attacks, escaped the worst of the blaze.

In a statement the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland said: "We call upon anyone with the slightest piece of information to contact the police and help them find the culprits.

"Someone must know who is carrying out these attacks on our premises across Northern Ireland. They have a moral responsibility to pass on that information to the police."

The spokesman continued: "We would strongly appeal to the entire community not to be sucked into any form of retaliation which is exactly what these arsonists would like to see happening. The only way to deal with these attacks is to help the police catch the people responsible."

According to the Orange Order there have been 14 arson attacks this year in addition to a number of other vandalism attacks. See: Goggins To Discuss 'Under Attack' Halls
