Another Arrest Over Cronin Murder

A second man has been detained in connection with the murder of Limerick man, James Cronin.

The man was arrested in Limerick yesterday evening and is currently being held at Henry Street Garda station, where he can be held for up to a week.

The 24-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday evening on the south side of Limerick city.

He is being detained at Roxboro Garda station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to seven days without charge.

James Cronin's body was found by gardaí on April 7th, last year, while they were carrying out searches following the murder of Mark Moloney, 40, who was shot dead 48 hours earlier.

He 20-year-old was discovered half buried in a field at Caledonian Park. A subsequent postmortem by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy concluded that he died from a single shotgun wound to his head.

Although a number of arrests have been made, no one has been charged with the killing, which gardaí believe was related to gang feuds in Limerick, and is thought to have sparked a weeks of bloody attacks in the city.
