Help Sought Following Assault On Woman

Witnesses are being sought after a woman was seriously assaulted last Thursday night in Co Limerick.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road Garda Station in the city are investigating the serious assault and are looking for the publics help.

The incident took place on Thursday 29th May, between 12.30am and 2.00am.

This was the night of the Champions League final and officers are hopeful that with the larger crowd in the city someone may have witnessed the attack. They are especially anticipating taxi drivers and revellers who may have been on their way home to come forward.

The victim, a woman in her 40s from the Limerick area had been socialising in the city centre with friends and at approximately 12.30am got a taxi from Liddy Street, adjacent to Sarsfield Street, to travel to the Dooradoyle or Raheen area.

It is not known were she got out of the taxi, but some time before 2am the woman was seriously assaulted by a male. Following the incident the woman was unable to locate her handbag containing keys and her mobile phone.

The woman was wearing a black and white striped top with a black waistcoat with white trousers and white sandals.

She was also carrying a white handbag. Gardaí are also anxious to hear from anyone who may have come upon the white handbag, keys or mobile phone discarded in any location to contact them.

Police would like anyone who was in the Dooradoyle or Raheen area, particularly in the St Nessan's Road area, between the Mid-Western Regional Hospital and the Raheen Roundabout to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214342 or the Garda confidential number 1800 666 111
