Fire Death Settlement Reached

A decade after a tragic, accidental house fire killed a six-year-old Sligo girl, her family has been awarded compensation.

In the legal action, Mr Justice Vivian Lavin extended his deepest sympathies to the family of Sarah Jinks who was killed in the blaze.

Her mother, Philomena, had claimed that the fire in which her daughter died 10 years ago started at a fuse box in their home at St Edward's Terrace in Sligo.

The local council did not admit liability in the case for damages, but a settlement was reached this week

The court heard the girl's family will get €100,000, including €15,000 euro as part of the fatal injuries action.

The action was against Sligo Borough Council.
