Investigation To Be Carried Out After Double Drowning

An investigation is to be carried out after two fishermen were found drowned off the north Connemara coast yesterday morning.

The bodies of Tony Coohill, who was in his 30s, and Féichín Mulkerrin, 58, were recovered in an extensive air and sea search yesterday afternoon.

The men had been checking lobster pots in a motorised currach, when it is believed they fell overboard off Aughrus Point.

The Marine Casualty Investigation Board is due to carry out the inquiry.

Both men were married and from the Claddaghduff area.

Pilot Rescued After Ditching Plane Off Wexford Coast
A lucky pilot has been rescued after his plane crashed into the sea off Co Wexford. The light aircraft, which is believed to have been flown from England, went down shortly before 5pm yesterday. The pilot was also believed to have been spotted standing on the wing of the submerged, but still floating, two-man plane by coincidence.

Three Arrested In Cork Shooting Investigation
Gardaí in Cork have arrested three men in connection with a shooting in the city on Monday night. According to gardaí a man aged in his 20s was shot a number of times by a man on a motorbike. The victim is being treated at Mercy University Hospital. Gardí have appealed for witnesses to the shooting, or any one with any information, to contact them.

Fresh Appeal For Information On 1993 Murder Of Brendan McKenna
Detectives from Legacy Investigation Branch have issued a fresh appeal for information on the murder of Brendan McKenna near Comber in June 1993, on what would have been Brendan's 58th birthday. Mr McKenna was shot dead by a gunman as he drove to a quarry on the Ballystockart Road, Comber on 2 June 1993.

Man Charged After Cannabis And €20,000 Cash Seized In Limerick
A man is to appear in court today, 07 July, charged in connection with the seizure of cannabis during an operation in Limerick on Tuesday, 05 July. Cannabis herb, worth an estimated street value of €10,000, and €20,000 cash was seized from an apartment on Howley's Quay.

Two Hurt In Restaurant Explosion
An explosion has occurred at a restaurant off the main street of Ballinspittle, between Bandon and Cork city, at about 11am this morning. Reports suggest that two people have been injured.
