Post Office Raiders Hunted

The hunt is on after two masked men entered a Carlow supermarket yesterday morning and robbed the post office on the premises.

The incident occured at Hosey's supermarket on Staplestown Road at around 11am when the men, using a sledgehammer, smashed the glass panel at the post office section at the back of the shop.

The raiders took what is believed to be at least €10,000, having threatened two female members of staff before getting away with a bag of cash.

They escaped on foot to a waiting car around 100 metres away.

Gardaí believe the car was a black 03 BMW with a Dublin registration.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, a man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at the Marriott Hotel, Druids Glen in Co Wicklow.

A number of guests, including Minister for European Affairs Dick Roche, as well as staff members were held hostage by three men at the hotel on 15 December last year.

One of the men was armed with a sawn-off shotgun. The three escaped with an undisclosed sum of money.

The man, who is in his 20s, is being held at Bray Garda Station.
