Man Arrested In Connection With Finglas Shooting

A 27-year-old man has been arrested over the fatal shooting of a man in the Fingals area of Dublin in late 2007.

Gardai investigating the shooting of 36-year-old Derek Duffy at Casement Park, Finglas made the arrest last night in Dublin City Centre.

Derek Duffy was gunned down at approximately 4am on the 23rd September 2007.

The man is currently detained at Finglas Garda station under the Offences Against the State Act.

In other news, Wednesday's shooting of 33-year-old 'Champagne' Johnny Carroll at Grumpy Jacks pub in Coombe is being connected to gangland activity in the area.

Gardaí believe there may be a spate of retaliation attacks over Carroll's murder.

Carroll is believed to be a leading figure in a Coolock and Baldoyle based criminal gang, suspected of importing large amounts of heroin into the country from the UK.

Gardai believe that his killing, in full view of other drinkers, could be linked to a dispute between the gang and the Dublin unit of the INLA over drug money.
