Body Recovered As Donegal Search For Doctor Continues

As volunteers and coast guard personnel battled strong storms in continuing searches for missing Belfast-born doctor Deirdre Donnelly-O'Flaherty along the east coast of the Inishowen Peninsula at the weekend, the body of another missing person was recovered near the border, in Co Down.

On Saturday, a search found the body of Maurice Donaldson, 53, near the Fairy Glen area of Kilbroney Forest Park in Rostrevor, overlooking Carlingford Lough.

The father-of-three was reported missing on Thursday and the police said the death was not suspicious.

He was a second cousin of the Stormont MLA and Junior Minister Jeffrey Donaldson, who said the community was "reeling in shock at the grim discovery".

The DUP MLA for Lagan Valley also praised the hundreds of volunteers who hunted for his relative in violent winds and rain.

Mr Donaldson's own relatives had joined the hunt on Saturday afternoon when a Coastguard helicopter was drafted in along with a fixed wing aircraft with heat-seeking monitors.

Mourne Mountain Rescue, the PSNI and local volunteers also combed the hills close to the village of Rostrevor.

Just after 1pm, a police dog team found a body in dense undergrowth - just 500 metres away from where he was last seen.

Mr Donaldson, who worked as a builder, disappeared after parking his Jeep at Forestbank Park, a residential area close to the picturesque Fairy Glen.

Meanwhile, the search for Deirdre Donnelly-O'Flaherty, the Strabane-based doctor - who has been missing for over a week - turned up nothing over the weekend.

The continuing search is being co-ordinated by the Irish coastguard at Greencastle in Co Donegal.

It was sparked after her car was found at Kinnegoe Bay with the keys in the ignition.
