Surgeon Struck Off Over Sexual Assaults
A former consultant surgeon at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda has been struck off the medical register after claims he had sexually assaulted his patients.
The surgeon was struck from the medical register for professional misconduct following an inquiry into complaints that Dr Michael Shine indecently or sexually assaulted male patients.
President of the High Court Mr Justice Richard Johnson confirmed on Monday of the decision to erase Dr Shine's name from the medical register.
A probe was carried out by the Medical Council's fitness to practise committee into the complaints on patients who were teenagers or child patients between 1964 and 1994.
A number of Dr Shine's former patients were at the High Court today to hear the outcome of the inquiry and welcomed the decision.

Two Thirds Of Final Year Medical Students Do Not Plan To Work In Irish Hospitals
Fine Gael Senator for Cork and Seanad Spokesperson on Health, Colm Burke, has today released the results of a survey he commissioned of medical students across the country, which found that nearly two thirds of final year medical students (65.5%) do not plan on working within the Irish hospital system one year after their graduation.
