Nurses Begin Industrial Action At Galway Hospital

Nurses at a Galway hospital have launched industrial action as part of a dispute over the treatment of two managers.

The Irish Nurses Organisation have petitioned its members to take the action following the disciplining of two long-serving senior nurse managers at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

According to the Union, the members were disciplined after raising concerns about the health and safety of patients at the hospital.

A spokesman for the INO said the nurses were suspended by management for not attending subsequent meetings with hospital management over allegations of dysfunctional behaviour within "senior nurse management".

The INO is warning that its industrial action will escalate next month if the issue isn't resolved.

Last week, the INO also petitioned its members in Letterkenny Hospital to protest against the government's budgetary cutbacks.
