Suspect Device And Weapons Found In Substation

A bomb disposal team have been deployed after workers at an electric substation in Dublin found a suspect device.

Gardaí are investigating the discovery at Greenfort Gardens in Ronanstown. The device was discovered in an Electricity Supply Board (ESB) substation at around 12.45pm by ESB staff. The device and a number of shotgun cartridges were found wrapped in plastic and officers believe the cache had been there for a number of days.

The area was cordoned off by Gardai and an army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team requested. The EOD team inspected the device, declaring it "viable", before making it safe and removing it from the scene at just before 3.15pm.

Gardai will technically examine the component parts of the device, and the incident is under investigation.

In other news, the five men detained by Gardai under the Offences Against The State Act on the 9th of September have been charged and are to appear at a sitting of the Special Criminal Court at 11.00am on Thursday.

The men were arrested in the early hours of the 9th of September at an apartment in the Park West area of the city.
