Bail Refused In Fatal Cork Crash Case

A 26 year-old man has appeared in court, charged in connection with a fatal car crash in Cork which left a 25 year-old woman dead.

Lukasz Lachowskil of Edward Court, Edward Street, Kilmallock in Co Limerick was charged with dangerous driving at the junction of Gearney's boreen and the Commons Road in Cork city in the early hours of Sunday morning last.

He appeared before a sitting of the district court in Mallow on Tuesday morning. The hearing heard how the incident resulted in the death of Gillian Drinan, from Ballincollig, who was the driver of the other car.

The State applied to have Mr Lachowski remanded in custody saying they would be objecting to bail on the basis that more serious charges are likely.

The Polish national was refused bail and remanded him in custody as the defendant had been only living here 12 months, in that time he had three different addresses, had no family here, and had no ties here.

Mr Lachowskil was granted free legal aid, and is due appear again before the District Court this Friday in Cork.
