Man Sets Himself On Fire In Dublin

A man is fighting for his life after setting himself on fire outside a refugee office.

The incident happened on the street outside the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner on Lower Mount Street in Dublin around 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The 30 year-old Indian man is said to be in a critical condition in hospital. Onlookers claim the man doused himself with a combustive fuel and lit it with a match.

He is believed to have been protesting his refusal of a visa.

The man underwent hours of surgery last night in St James's Hospital, Dublin. He was then put on a life-support machine.

In a similar incident in the UK, a 23 year old man is undergoing treatment after setting himself on fire in Surrey.

The man had threatened to attack residents before running into woodland with a can of petrol and a lighter after police confronted him.

Police officers at the scene stunned the man after he set himself alight before smothering the flames.

The officers were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns to their hands at Royal Surrey County.
