Two Held On Dublin Shooting

A 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman who were arrested in connection with a shooting over the weekend remain in custody at Coolock and Malahide garda stations today.

The pair are being held in connection with the shooting of a 21-year-old man in north Dublin on Friday.

The victim, who is in a critical condition in hospital, was shot by a lone gunman as he sat in a car in the Buttercup Park area of Darndale on Friday evening.

A baby was left screaming in terror and covered in blood when the gunman blasted five shots at the man - who was holding the child - while parked in the Dublin housing estate.

Although the baby boy was covered in blood and glass in the attack, miraculously, he escaped death or serious injury.

The man who was shot, named locally as Anthony Ayodeji is in his 20s, and is believed to have been actually hit three times by pistol bullets.

Gardai initially said they were hunting the gunman who fired five rounds from a handgun into the VW Golf car as other children played on the street at 7pm.

The gunman walked up to a car, smashed the window, and fired at the man who was sitting in the front seat.
