Alleged Rapist Boyfriend Told Cancer Girl He Was A Doctor

A 31 year-old old man has been charged with 12 counts of rape, endangerment, assault, theft and fraud.

But the victim, who was his ex-girlfriend and who was ill, let herself be 'treated' by her then boyfriend who was claiming to be a doctor.

However, she discovered he did not work in any of the hospitals in which he claimed he worked and it was only later that she was correctly diagnosed with cancer.

Detectives from Mountjoy in Dublin arrested a man in south Dublin at 8am on Thursday morning after a year and a half long investigation.

The man was subsequently brought to the Garda Station and charged with 12 offences, including two counts of rape, two counts of assault, endangerment, theft and fraud. It was established the man is instead a law student in Dublin.

The woman said she had gone to a Dublin clinic in 2006 and was advised to immediately see a doctor.

However she told detectives that her boyfriend told her not to bother, that he would treat her and prescribe antibiotics on a doctor's prescription pad.

The woman has also told the gardaí he carried out invasive procedures.

The woman further told gardaí she had noticed money missing from her accounts and discovered presents that he gave her had been bought with her Laser card.

The Garda arrested and questioned the man, then sent a file to the DPP, directing that he be charged and brought before the courts.
