Alleged Vegas Hit Man On Trail With Targets Wife

A Clare woman and an alleged Vegas ‘Hit Man’ have gone on trial for allegedly conspiring to kill the woman's partner and his two sons.

Sharon Collins, 44, of Ballybeg House, Kildysart Road, Ennis; and Essam Eid, 52, an Egyptian man with a Nevada address, have pleaded not guilty to conspiring to kill PJ, Robert and Niall Howard between August 1 and September 26, 2006.

Ms Collins denies hiring Mr Eid to shoot the three men, whilst Mr Eid denies demanding €100,000 from Robert Howard to cancel the contracts on him and his sons.

Mr Eid, who works as a poker dealer in Las Vegas denies breaking into the Howard family business at Westgate Business Park and stealing two computers, some computer cables, a digital clock and a poster, although caught in possession the items.

Widower PJ Howard was a Clare businessman involved in property and his two sons worked with him. The prosecution said Ms Collins had been in a relationship with him and they had been living together since 1998.

Ms Collins also worked in Mr Howard's property business and was eager to get married, according to the prosecution, and arranged to take part in a proxy marriage through the internet.

The prosecution believed Ms Collins subsequently contacted Mr Eid who had advertised through the website Hitmanforhire.com under the name Tony Luciano.

Prosecutors said that on September 24, 2006 Mr Eid arrived in Ireland and booked into Room 208 at the Two Mile Inn Hotel in Limerick. They added he then burgled the offices of Mr Howard's business on September 25.

According to the prosecution, Mr Eid approached Robert Howard after the robbery and demanded money to cancel the hit on him, his brother and his father.

The trial will start today and is expected to last for up to four weeks.
