Hoax Devices Found In Dublin

Gardaí in Dublin have been called to two separate incidents regarding hoax devices.

Garda were called to the Rutland Grove Avenue area at approximately 10.50 pm on Tuesday night after a suspicious object was found under a car. Gardaí from Sundrive Road cordoned off the area and began an evacuation of houses.

Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) arrived at the scene and examined the device before declaring it a hoax shortly after midnight.

In a separate incident, Garda were notified at 12.10am of another suspicious object found under a vehicle, this time on the Upper Rathmines Road. Gardaí again had to cordon off the area and evacuate nearby houses. After an investigation by Army EOD at the scene the second device was also declared to be a hoax. Both devices were sent to the Garda Technical Bureau for investigation.

The hoaxes come on foot of a booby-trap car bomb attack on an off-duty police officer in County Tyrone.

The PSNI officer, a Catholic, sustained serious, but not life-threatening, leg injuries in the attack on Monday in Spamount village, near Castlederg.

On Wednesday, NI Deputy First Minister Martin McGuiness paid a private visit to an injured police officer at Altnagelvin hospital.
