€200k Of Drugs Seized In Major Crime Operation

A major investigation into organised crime in Limerick has targeted around 150 premises today and seized €200,000 worth of drugs, it has been revealed.

The biggest operation of its kind ever launched - nicknamed 'Operation Platinum' - began this morning at 6am, with over 250 uniformed officers and detectives from divisions throughout Limerick, Cork and Kerry raiding a number of premises.

Personnel from the Criminal Assets Bureau, the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the Garda National drugs Units were involved in the multiple raids.

Three men, all aged in their 20s were arrested and searches are ongoing.

Around 120 homes, 15 professional offices, seven business premises were searched during the operation.

The searches took place in Weston, St Mary's Park and Southill and other counties surrounding Dublin and Limerick.

A Garda spokesman said two firearms, a quantity of ammunition and two vehicles were confiscated during the raids.

Drug seizures, of mostly cocaine and ecstasy - worth a street value of more than €200,000 - were made and around €100,000 worth of cash was also found.

Feuding Limerick Gang Cash And Property Seized
Cash, Computers and documents belonging to members of a feuding gang have been seized in a number of raids yesterday. Gardaí revealed this morning that a search operation was conducted in Counties Dublin, Tipperary, Offaly and Kerry targeting individuals involved in the Limerick gang feuds.

Cash Aid For Drug Task Force
Drug abuse in the mid west is to be tackled with news of a further cash allocation to deal with the problem. Clare Fianna, the Fail TD and Minister Tony Killeen welcomed the allocation of €25,000 to the Mid West Regional Drugs Task Force (MWRDTF).

Cannabis Seized In Tarelton, Co Cork
Gardaí in Co Cork have seized cannabis worth an estimated €500,000 during a search of a house in Tarelton, near Macroom. A man has been arrested in connection with the seizure. Garda said the latest find is part of an ongoing operation targeting drugs in the area. Three people have been arrested to date.

Man Arrested Over 39kg Of Cannabis Resin
Officers from the National Drugs Unit have arrested a man in connection with the discovery of cannabis resin worth an estimated value of €234,000. The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on Thursday at a service station on the M1 southbound at about 09:00am in what has been described as an "intelligence-led operation".
