Donations To Irish Politicians Almost €1 Million

Figures published by the Standards Commission have revealed TDs, Senators, MEPs and former Members received donations totalling a huge €855,995 for 2007.

The donations included money, property, goods and services.

A total of €1,343,818.62 was donated when including those who were unsuccessful in their election bid.

Members of Fianna Fáil disclosed the highest proportion of donations with a total value of €517,871, Fine Gael managed less than half of that figure with €130,791, while the Progressive Democrats and The Socialist Party received only €13,000 between them.

Wicklow TD Joe Behan disclosed the highest level of donations, receiving over €36,000 during 2007.

Only 80 TDs, 40 Senators, 12 MEPs and 47 former Members furnished a "nil" Donation Statement

Donations under €634.87 were not required to be disclosed.

Man Dies In House Fire In Co Wexford
A man in his 70's has died in a house fire in Clonroche, Co Wexford. Emergency services received reports about the blaze at around 9am on Wednesday, 26 October. The man, who was alone in the house at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene. Garda are carrying out a technical investigation.

2,300 Citizens Received Consular Assistance In 2015
More than 2,300 Irish citizens received consular assistance from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2015, it has been revealed. The assistance includes support to the families of Irish citizens who passed away while abroad last year. 263 people passed away abroad in 2015.

Man Charged Following Robbery In Clontarf
A man has been charged in connection with a robbery in Clontarf earlier this week. The 25-year-old is due to appear in court today, 10 December. The incident happened at around 12.30pm on 8 December, when a suspect walked onto the driveway of a house on Malahide Road and assaulted a man in his 70s, before taking his car keys.
