Pilots Accept Lucrative Offer

Aer Lingus Pilots have voted in favour of the new deal with its airline on a controversial cost-cutting plan.

Pilots voted by a majority of 85% to accept the deal, which will see around 500 pilots share a €7m package.

Aer Lingus pilots will reportedly receive an average of €14,000 each having agreed to the more flexible work practices.

However, the decision means airline line pilots for Aer Lingus will now work an extra 50 hours per year before the overtime threshold is reached.

The next pay review for pilots will take place in 2011, and their union has recently won the right to represent pilots in Belfast.

Aer Lingus management are also in talks with 1,800 SIPTU staff that last week rejected a compromise cost cutting negotiated by their representatives six weeks ago.
