Worker Killed In Steel Plant Accident

A man has been killed following an incident at a steel plant in Cork this morning.

The 62-year-old worker died at around 9.30am after an accident at the Duggan Steel plant in Millstreet in North Cork.

The Health and Safety Authority has said its inspectors are at the scene and has confirmed it has launched an investigation into the incident.

Haulbowline Is Safe Says Report
The controversial site at Haulbowline has been declared safe by a government report today. The assessment published by the Minister for the Environment John Gormley today has said the risks posed by toxic waste at the former Irish Steel plant in Cork poses no identifiable threat to local residents.

22,000 Cigarettes Seized In Limerick
Twenty two thousand illegal cigarettes, with an estimated worth of €10,300, have been seized by customs officers in Limerick. The 'Septwolf' cigarettes were found on Monday in two steel containers when officers stopped and searched a vehicle at the Limerick-Cork border.

Industrial Accident Claims Man's Life
A man has died in an industrial accident while operating maintenance machinery. The accident happened at around 9.00am on Monday. Roman Chmil, from the Ukraine, is believed died at the scene at the Keenan farm machinery plant in Borris, Co Carlow.

Dublin Water Restrictions To Continue Until 4 Nov
Water restrictions imposed in Dublin last night are expected to continue until Monday 4 November. The restrictions, which cause low pressure and loss of supply, will be in place each evening from 8pm until 7am. It is understood that the restrictions are the result of problems at Dublin's biggest water treatment plant, Ballymore Eustace.
