Teens Die On Roads

Two teenage girls were killed yesterday while five others were injured – two of them seriously – in a road accident in the Irish Republic.

They were travelling to Connemara as part of a group of around 30 from the Islamic Cultural Centre in Dublin when the accident happened near Kilreekil in Galway.

One of three vehicles taking them to a three-day outdoor pursuits course left the road and smashed into a pole before colliding with a wall and ending up in a field.

The two girls, aged 13 and 14, were pronounced dead at the scene and the other five people in the car were taken to hospitals in Galway and Ballinasloe.

Last night families of the girls gathered at the centre in Dublin waiting to hear news of who had died or been injured.

Two minibuses with the remainder of the party returned from Galway after the trip was cancelled.

The road near the tragic scene was closed for a time.
