Young Woman Dies In Road Accident

A 22-year-old woman passenger has been killed in a car accident in Co Mayo.

The car left the road and ended up in a field in Eachleim, Blacksod, Ballina at around 5.30am this morning.

A garda spokeswoman said: "She has been removed to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar where she was pronounced dead.

"Two other males who were also in the car have been taken to Mayo General Hospital and are receiving treatment for their injuries, which are believed not to be life-threatening."

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, a separate road crash has caused significant delays on the M50 motorway in Dublin this morning.

Four vehicles were involved in the major collision near the Finglas interchange.

Traffic has been allowed to use the emergency lane, but delays were building up this morning.

Man Dies In Overnight Road Crash
A man has died when his car collided with a van on the Rathbeale road in Swords, Dublin, around 02.30am on Wednesday morning. The man in his 40s was a passenger in the van. He died at the scene. The driver of the van and a second passenger are being treated in hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Woman Killed In Cavan Crash
A woman has been killed in a traffic collision in Co Cavan. It happened on Monday morning and saw the 64-year-old woman fatally injured when the car she was driving lost control and overturned into a deep drain at the side of the road. She was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Missing Climbers Return Safely
Four climbers who were reported missing in County Mayo yesterday have returned to their car safe and sound today. Local people alerted the Mayo Mountain Rescue Team after the group of tourists, all from the UK, failed to return from Mweelrea before dark last night.

Woman Dies After Mayo Mountain Fall
A woman who fell while climbing in the Mweelrea mountains in Co Mayo yesterday evening has died. Search teams in the Mweelrea Mountains in Co Mayo were called to the scene where the woman, who is in her 30s, fell on Ben Bury peak at around 6.30pm yesterday evening.
