LUAS Death Probed

An investigation has been launched after a man was killed when struck by a tram over the weekend.

The man has been named as Anthony Creed of Bawnlea Close in Tallaght.

The victim - who was in his 50s - was hit by the tram, which was travelling towards Tallaght at 7.00pm.

It is the first time someone has died in an incident involving the new trams since they were introduced in 2004.

The incident happened on the LUAS red line between the Hospital and Tallaght stops on Cookstown Way on Saturday night.

The man was seriously injured in the incident and was being treated in Tallaght hospital where he died yesterday morning.

A spokesperson for the LUAS said they extend their sympathy to the family and friends of Mr Creed, and that an investigation was under way.

Teenager Dies After Car Crash In Sligo
An 18-year-old man has died following a car crash in Sligo during the weekend. The single-vehicle accident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning near Riverstown. A man who had been missing from the Tallaght area has been found 'safe and well', Garda have reported. 30-year-old John Rodgers was reported missing on 11 July. However, Garda said John has now been found and thanked the public for their assistance.

Teen Arrested Following Firearm Seizure
A 19-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí following the seizure of a firearm in Tallaght, Dublin. He was arrested on the Jobstown Road at approximately 12.40am on Tuesday morning. Gardaí were alerted after a man was seen holding a weapon. The male was chased on foot and gardaí disarmed and arrested him.

Man Stable After Being Struck By Luas
A man struck by a Luas tram in south Dublin on Tuesday night is in a stable condition in hospital. The incident happened at Cheeverstown at about 20:15 on Tuesday, Dublin Fire Service have said. It is understood that an 18-year-old man was on the tracks between the Citywest and Cheeverstown stops when he was hit.

Man Shot In Leg At His Dublin Home
A man was shot in the leg at his home in Dublin last night. The man, in his 30s, was shot at a number of times, at his house in Tallaght, south Dublin, according to Gardai. He was taken to Tallaght Hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The victim was shot at three times in the leg at his front door.
