Aer Lingus Threat To Suspend Staff

Aer Lingus has written to staff warning them that they will be suspended if they do not give an undertaking that they will not participate in planned strike action next week.

The letter was sent to SIPTU members by the airline's chief executive Dermot Mannion.

The union served strike notice on Aer Lingus on Tuesday, over what it claims is the management's decision to unilaterally downgrade the working conditions of employees.

The union has claimed that the airline is forcing vulnerable temporary workers to sign contracts with less pay and longer hours or face the termination of their employment.

If it goes ahead, the strike action will consist of four-hour stoppages on November 20 and 23 at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports.

SIPTU accused Aer Lingus of attempted intimidation.
